My Students

I work at a school with gifted students who have worked hard to achieve great things. We are a well-rounded school with a strong humanities-based college preparatory program. The students are passionate about writing, debate, exploration of new ideas, and finding intersections between our content and their lives.

Our brilliant, diverse students have sharp analytical minds and could be excellent scientists and engineers.

Sadly, a lot of our money goes into keeping our school's entire program running, so certain supplies are lacking in our science department. Students have mentioned that they want to be proud of their science lab. Without new, working materials, long-term investigative projects are less feasible.

We want the best science education possible for these intellectually curious young adults, and we are trying everything we can to make that a reality.

My Project

In order for our school's laboratory experience safe, students must have equipment that protects them during each activity. Students also need classroom references that allow them to finish labs easily.

Many of our goggles are broken, and students are doing labs without aprons--this is hazardous, but safety equipment is very expensive.

We need outside funding, during an especially lean year, to enable our students to have a laboratory experience that does not endanger their well-being.

Our classroom periodic table is almost broken, and this is another item in this list. Students rely on this classroom resource in their Chemistry classes, especially during whole-group discussion. If this costly resource ceases to function, student performance dips. We need functional classrooms and labs.
