Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Help give my students educational materials such as books, coloring books, origami activities, and stickers about endangered animals and species. These resources will spark curiosity and build awareness about the challenges animals face in the wild.

By using creative, hands-on activities such as: making origami animals that are endangered, reading about them, using coloring books, and having stickers of endangered animals, students will not only learn to identify endangered species but also deepen their understanding of conservation, empathy for living creatures, and the importance of environmental stewardship.

The goal of this project is to help students understand which animals and species are endangered and what factors contribute to their decline, such as habitat loss, pollution, and climate change. Through engaging resources like books, coloring books, origami activities, and stickers, students will explore ways to protect wildlife and how they can care for our planet.

My students are naturally curious about their environment and our planet. Living in the inner city, they don’t always have direct access to nature, but through literature, they explore beyond their neighborhood and into the wider world.

Recently, our class was introduced to the topic of endangered species through a reading program. Since then, they have shown a growing interest in understanding how environmental changes and climate shifts affect wildlife. They know that many animals face extinction because of these changes and want to learn more.

My classroom includes a diverse range of learners, including students performing at different academic levels, English learners, and students with varying learning needs. Despite these differences, every student connected with this topic. They are genuinely concerned about our planet and the animals which we share.

This project will help expand their understanding through books, hands-on activities, and creative expression, nurturing both their intellectual curiosity and compassion for the world.
