My Students
Eager, urban middle school STEM students. I teach in a very diverse school with students who are very passionate about STEM education. The students in my STEM classes are creative and hard working. Most of the students in my classes will be first generation college students and many plan to pursue careers in STEM fields, many of who aspire to be engineers. STEM resources are essential to enhancing these students’ curiosity and creativity. Providing hands-on classroom experiences gives my students the skills needed to be the best in their classes moving forward to high school, college, and beyond.
My Project
The materials being requested will be used each semester by the 7th grade STEM students. Students will learn about the biology and physics. After learning these fundamentals students will work in teams as they take on the challenge of designing, building, and testing a new and improved football helmet. Students will be the engineers as they design and build. The students will also be the scientists as they collect accurate data using the sensor being requested. Students will be engaged in this exciting new engineering design challenge. This lesson has many connections to the real world and is very relevant to middle school student lives.
