Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our students represent a very diversified school. We have students from Israel, ex-Soviet Union countries, many of us never heard about, such as Georgia, Uzbekistan, Belorussia, in addition to the students from all over Asia, Africa, Central and South America. Our students come from low-income families. Many of them live in the shelter, far away from the school and take a long journey to come to school. Many of them are single parent families or live in a foster family.

Despite the conditions our students live in, they show great attendance and are eager to learn.

Besides, the parents are very supportive of our school's unique programs we offer to their children.

My Project

This winter break I'm thinking about some of my students more than ever because of their illness or living conditions. It is my desire to help provide them with at least a small portion of essential and comfortable shoes to wear to school. Some of my single parent students lost their mothers due to cancer and their other caregiver cannot afford basic clothing. For example, an 8th Grade student who survived cancer through chemotherapy still cannot walk a lot and has to take an elevator to come upstairs to her classrooms. Her mom works so hard and barely can afford half of the rent. I really want to help her.

Every child deserves to have the proper and safe footwear for living.

Many of my students come from very low-income families and travel by public transportation long distances from their homes that are located in crime-ridden areas to come to our school. They are hoping to have an opportunity to get the best education in a safe environment. My students explain to me that their parent(s) or other caregiver hardly earn money for rent and food and can't afford the needed pairs of shoes.

It makes me very sad and concerned when some of my students come to school day after day in the same worn out shoes which they must wear the entire school year after their sibling or a friend wore them. With winter fast approached, some of them do not have nice and comfortable athletic shoes to wear. Yet, they are continuing to work hard to be successful academically and become productive citizens for our country.

With your help, Dear Donor, I will be able to help at least some of my students get what are really bare essentials for most of us.
