My Project

The graphic novel medium is a wonderful bridge for reluctant readers to find access to quality stories with compelling topical discussions. As my students work to renew their relationship with academics, it is important that they build background knowledge in concert with analytical abilities.

For the study of propaganda's use from a historical context, Orwell's Animal Farm provides a great entry point for analysis.

As we study propaganda, students will examine how propaganda is used throughout the novel, but they will also analyze how propaganda has been used throughout history and in our modern world.

As a literacy teacher, I find that my students' relationship with reading is tense. Regardless of their past experiences, I find that when offered grade-level content texts to read at a reasonable pace, they engage fully, laying a foundation of knowledge - book by book.
