My Students

Despite the fact that my students attend a multi-decades old school in a rural area, they come every day awaiting a new adventure. They are full of energy, love, and a desire to succeed, but need assistance to accomplish this.

My students deserve access to reading materials that promote peace.

They need your support. Being a part of a rural, high-poverty community should not mean my students are denied access to positive character reading materials that their peers in other areas receive. They deserve my best every day. They deserve new books. They deserve a safe place to grow, a safe place to learn, and access to books that support learning.

My Project

As my students prepare to return to the classroom five days a week, I want to have relevant, positive message books available in my classroom. During these months away from school, most of my students have had no counseling support services, no character education, and no "go-to" adults outside of family members.

Just Mercy and similar justice and equality books are excellent teaching tools.

They can provide students individual encouragement, can be used to promote character education discussions, and can empower students to make positive changes within our school and community. New York Times Book Reviewer, Ted Conover confirms this is his statement regarding "Just Mercy": "The message of this book . . . is that evil can be overcome, a difference can be made.". I want to help my students make this change.
