Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Every year, our middle school students create cards to show respect, honor, and compassion for veterans. Creating cards allows students to show appreciation for those who have served our country. Honoring veterans teaches students compassion and gives them time to reflect on who our veterans are and the sacrifices they made to serve our country.
Let's raise kids who care, are kind, and support others!
My project is for blank cards, envelopes, markers, ribbons, stickers, and patterned papers. These supplies will allow students to create art and hand-written notes to spread kindness and show compassion.
Students will participate in small group and whole class discussions on questions such as:
What would it feel like to be away from your family and friends for months at a time?
How would receiving a happy letter from a nice and caring stranger feel?
These discussions will allow students to share their thoughts and ideas with others and reflect on the importance of showing compassion. This will also allow me to measure students' understanding of compassion.
