A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
The whiteboards, markers, and erasers that I am requesting for my students will greatly improve my students' interaction with course content and overall learning experience in our Grade 7 English and Language Arts (ELA) classroom. My Grade 7 ELA students are enthusiastic and eager to learn, but often struggle with instructional techniques that only offer interaction with paper or their computers versus active instructional engagement with their classmates.
By donating to this project, you will make our ELA 7 instructional techniques and strategies more interactive and engaging, which will make our course content more meaningful and better retained.
One activity for which students will use these whiteboards is called Gallery Walk, where students walk around the room from whiteboard to whiteboard, as they would in an art gallery while viewing pieces of art, collaborating with their classmates and commenting on the posted content before synthesizing their thoughts and participating in a whole-class discussion on the topic at hand. Students will also use these whiteboards for grammar activities such as labeling parts of speech in given text, with each whiteboard focusing on one part of speech. When reading literature and analyzing characters, students will be able to rotate around the room, stopping at each whiteboard to record text evidence that reveals a character's speech, thoughts, effect on other characters, actions, and looks, in addition to other qualities labeled on additional whiteboards.
These above activities encourage and utilize higher-level thinking skills such as synthesis, analysis, and evaluation in my students while also promoting positive interpersonal skills, listening skills, team building, and critical thinking, results which I have seen in my many years of teaching and are supported by research.
My overall goal for this project is to actively engage my students during instruction and help them to love and learn our content!
