My Students

I teach students with and without disabilities from diverse backgrounds, with differing interests, challenges, and ambitions. My students are likely to become adults who will change the world in amazing ways because they are not only learning the standards of their grade level curriculum, they are learning a growth mindset.

Fostering curiosity in my students brings a joy to education that motivates lifelong learners.

This is the level of engagement I strive to create for my remarkable students.

When you are overcoming a disability, you think and learn differently. Many of my students are just hitting that age where they recognize that they must work harder than their peers to achieve the same level of success. They are also now old enough to recognize that in facing a challenge there is a gift! Thinking differently can lead to the kind of problem solving that creates breakthrough moments. Learning how your brain works can lead to self advocacy that empowers you throughout your life. All my students need the level of engagement that empowers them to their highest potential.

My Project

If I had a projector I would use it everyday! So many of the resources I use in my classroom are formatted on the computer. A projector allows me to present these resources as engaging guided lessons. It has been difficult to find another teacher's projector that is free at the time I need it. Every teacher seems to know the value of this piece of equipment!

To overcome barriers and play to their strengths my students need multiple means of representation and the visual & interactive activities a projector allows me to share make a difference!

Some of the ways I would use a projector are to share Online Educational Sights, Video Clips and Power Point Presentations. I find that the students are more attentive and experience greater enthusiasm for learning when I offer them material that they understand to be valuable to their lives. A projector gives us access to these authentic connections!
