My Students

My students have special needs and qualify for Adapted PE services through documented motor development delays. In order to safely and successfully participate in physical activity, they require modified instruction and equipment. Any physical limitations they may have though do not keep them from enjoying being active, especially when they are engaged. The one thing all of my students enjoy and have fun with is music and dancing!

Unfortunately the area in which I teach, where over 80% of the students are considered low-income, do not always have access to quality materials.

This limits their ability to progress and reach their goals.

My Project

Providing adequate and engaging physical activity for my students with disabilities, environments of limited space is always a struggle. Many students with special needs have added health concerns in the heat of Southern California, which can keep us from always being able to be outside. So on hot or rainy days, we are often restricted to having PE inside the classroom, with very little space to really move around. This environment is then very limiting in how active we can be.

With the projector and iPad in this project we will be able to better utilize space to provide productive physical activity for my students.

This will be done by utilizing dance and fitness games, videos, and apps to provide and promote physical activity. The compact nature of these devices will streamline the time it takes to transport and setup for the activity, without having to carry and set up bulky media players and game counsels, providing more time for active participation.

The projector will also allow for differentiated instruction and provide quality visual aides, for a variety of lessons and activities without having to carry around and store aides for each activity throughout the year. The iPad will also allow me to better track and assess my students’ skill levels and progress in any environment. This will assist with better activity development for individual student needs and IEP writing.

Help us be active in any environment!
