My Project

Our fifth through eighth grade students participate in our Young Scholars Program. The MISSION of the Concept Young Scholars Program (CYSP) is to improve the students’ academic success, prepare them for college, develop strong character, nurture and empower students through Personal Development, Community Service, Physical Activities and Educational Adventures.

CYSP scholars are the future leaders who build relationships and understand the importance of serving others in order to inspire action and accomplishment.

Our group partners with the Promise Community-Hub program within our city who uses our building to achieve their goals. Promise Community-Hub is committed to making a lasting impact in Youngstown by opening the program to low-income children in Mahoning and Trumbull Counties. Key features of this program is movement activities, positive peer relationships, and youth leadership development.

The CYSP students will create a presentation to send to community leaders inviting them to come to our school to learn how to become more active for a healthy lifestyle.

Both the CYSP and Promise Community-Hub focuses on many goals within the programs, but rely on physical activities to promote physical health awareness in the community. With these programs, CYSP is encouraging community members engagement by collaborating with organizations to provide activities, resources, and programs that enhance the quality of life for residents.

We are requesting dodgeballs to help achieve these children's physical health in a world where physical activities take a back seat. These balls are going to be used for multiple exercises and games to get the students and community members actively engaged. One exercise is the “plank tunnel” where teams of students will line up in plank position and race against members of the community to the be first team to pass a dodgeball through its “tunnel” and back to the start while maintaining the plank hold.

Ms. Zura Horizon Science Academy - Youngstwn Grades 6-8

Celebrate Black teachers and kids! This project supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of students are Black.

Equity Focus

At this school, more than 50% of students are Black, Latino, and/or Native American, and more than 50% come from low-income households. Learn how your donation to this school supports a more equitable education.
