My Project

P.H. School District educates approximately 3,200 students across 3 buildings. Approximately 80% of students enrolled are considered minority, and roughly 64% are economically disadvantaged. In addition, approximately 25% of our students are receiving special education services.

For the 2023-2024 school year, our Elementary school serves students enrolled from kindergarten through 5th grade.

We have 5 Autistic Support Classrooms and 2 Life Skills Classrooms in this building. Students in these classrooms may be considered nonverbal and/or demonstrate social skills impairments. Some students also have physical disabilities and may have difficulty walking and running. While others are in wheelchairs and our current structures do not have ramp accessibility. This makes it difficult for these exceptional students to participate in traditional games such as freeze tag, hide and seek, even simply throwing and catching a ball or exploring the equipment. While the school building does have 2 small playground structures, that include climbing apparatuses and sliding boards, not all students are able to fully participate in this type of play.

Receiving your help to build all-inclusive playgrounds will give all our students more opportunities outside, instead of just capable students.

I am seeking funding in order to provide additional games and tools so that each child can feel fully included as well as improve their physical and mental health.
