Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Coming into a title one school has its challenges. You have students coming from MANY different home situations. We have homeless students, students living with grandparents (or other distant relatives), and students not knowing which school they are going to next.

Every year there are different challenges that different students bring, and every year I challenge myself to encourage my kids to focus on their learning goals and creativity that frees their minds from any negativity that may be going on around them.

Kids need to feel like kids and I take it as my job to give each student exactly what they need to succeed.

My Project

This year I want to give my students something new and exciting to look forward to. I have created four different complete classroom transformation themes. I teach third grade and have the following lesson plan ideas for each transformation theme.

- Hospital/Surgical theme for teaching my students how to disect different parts of a text in order to truly comprehend.

- FBI/Secret Agent theme for teaching context clues and text structure.

- Construction theme for introducing are and perimeter.

- Pizzeria theme to help understand fractions.

Third grade is a tough year. It's the first year of state testing and these kids begin to feel a lot of pressure. I want to make this school year a year to remember!
