My Project

I teach kindergarten in the Bronx and this year I want to focus on my students' mental health.

Social-emotional learning lays the foundation for a child's emotional well-being, academic success, and overall life satisfaction.

By developing these skills early on, children are better equipped to manage their emotions, handle conflicts, and establish meaningful relationships.

I want to create a mindful calming corner with a designated space so that my students can retreat to when they need to regulate their emotions, reflect on their feelings, and find a sense of calm. I am asking for a child's tent so that they can have a little bit of privacy. I'd like to include some emotions charts so that the students can pinpoint what they're feeling as well as some feelings puzzles. I'd also like to include activities that will help them engage in sensory experiences that promote relaxation as well as some mindful maze boards for breathing and creativity.

By providing a safe space for emotional exploration, self-expression, and mindfulness, we can help pave the way for children to develop crucial life skills that will serve them well into the future.
