My Project

As an English teacher working with juniors and seniors, I strive to create a classroom environment that mirrors the academic rigor and discussion-based learning students will encounter in college. To achieve this, I am requesting seminar folding tables that will foster a more collegiate atmosphere, encouraging higher-level discourse, collaboration, and critical thinking.

How Will These Items Make a Difference in Student Learning?

Seminar tables will transform my classroom into an interactive learning space where students can engage in meaningful discussions, analyze literature more effectively, and develop the communication skills necessary for post-secondary success. Traditional desks often create barriers to discussion, while seminar tables promote eye contact, active listening, and intellectual exchange. This setup will encourage students to take ownership of their learning, preparing them for the seminar-style courses they will experience in college.

Goals for This Project

Enhance Student Engagement – Students will feel more comfortable expressing their ideas and engaging in Socratic discussions by fostering a collaborative setting.

Encourage Critical Thinking – The arrangement will allow for deeper literary analysis, peer debates, and thoughtful questioning.

Prepare Students for College and Career Readiness – Many students will transition to higher education or careers requiring strong communication and teamwork. This structure will provide them with the skills they need to succeed.

My students are bright, curious, and eager to learn. They are preparing to take their next steps, whether that be higher education, the workforce, or other career paths. Many first-generation college students benefit from an environment that reflects the academic settings they will soon enter. Providing them with a space that nurtures intellectual curiosity and discussion will empower them to think critically, articulate their thoughts confidently, and develop the analytical skills that will serve them for years.
