Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As a elementary teacher in a low-income, high poverty neighborhood, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to make things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.

My class is very diverse, the majority of the students are born to migrant workers who don’t have the economic means to buy the necessary school supplies.

By offering my students hands-on experiences for their different learning styles I will be closing the economic barrier therefore, allowing them to feel motivated and engaged in all of our scientific academic activities.

My Project

These materials will be used by my gifted elementary students in science class. During class my students will be able to experience a hands-on approach to science. They will be able to dissect with the appropriate tools and use a microscope to investigate different organisms. Currently, my students do not have access to a science lab and by having these tools available in class they will have the freedom to explore the world around them, hands-on and right in their science class. The owl pellets that I listed will actually be their first dissection experience.
