Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My class serves students with a range of disabilities, including intellectual and learning disabilities, speech impairment, emotional disturbance, and autism spectrum disorder. They struggle processing information and teaching them using different modalities is extremely important to make sure I reach all of my students.

My students are first and second graders with emotional, social and academic delays.

Most of my students are performing one to two grades below grade level, but are still expected to reach grade level common core standards as all other general education students. They are students that love learning but realize they are facing a challenge. Most of my students benefit from tactile and visual learning.

My Project

My students need a variety of art supplies to allow them to create visual art pieces to support their project-based activities in our science and social studies units. Using these art supplies will give my students who struggle with writing or verbal communication an opportunity to be creative and think outside the box.

These supplies will enhance the learning environment for my special needs students and give them an opportunity to show what they learned in a way other than through writing.

Students will be able to create decoupage planets after completing our space unit and murals to show the different ecosystems, create animals using model magic to show the different animal classifications. My students will enjoy being creative through art and learning at the same time.
