My Students

My students are creative and expressive -- they love to capture school spirit and share it with the community! Ours is a regional school in a rural setting with a limited budget. While we offer a vast variety of after-school programs, it is difficult to acquire the tools needed for success with our current funding. We currently offer a photography class, host a photography club, yearbook club, and school-newspaper club. Students are eager to learn with industry-standard tools to create the best media possible.

My students gravitate toward photography and admire professional photographers and their work.

My Project

Do you remember the first time you tried a professional DSLR camera? My students are hungry for professional tools and experiences while learning. The camera fundraiser did not reach its goal. We're aiming lower and choosing a needed lens instead. The lens will be used for our photography club, yearbook club, school newspaper, and for our social media outlets to capture school spirit. I will also use this lens in my photography class to teach the basics of photography. In my photography club, I teach my students to look through the lens with an artistic eye and show them the tools necessary for capturing school spirit in many lighting situations.

We engage in the school community to capture performances, sports, and other school and community activities.

Students engage in professional activities and build confidence while taking pride in the school community. They are visual thinkers who want to know more about photography and how they can best use it to make their voices heard. Instead of merely being consumers of content, they will be the creators. As we continue to develop the photography program, my goal is to give students access to a more professional photography experience and the opportunity to take studio-quality images. Donations to this project would be deeply appreciated by all.
