Our school is a Title I school. Over 50 percent of our population are multilingual learners. Over 90% of our students qualify for free and reduced lunch. This will be our 6th year of producing musicals and this has become a community fixture in areas surrounding our school. We will invite nursing homes and other Title I schools to come and watch our production for free. The items we will be ordering are used to help our musical theatre program produce a successful production. We have no annual budget so we rely on ticket sales of only $1 for kids and $3 per adult and funding from DonorsChoose to help us produce an experience that our kids will remember for a lifetime.
Each year, talented students in grades 3-5 come together to rehearse a musical for 17 weeks.
At the end of the rehearsal period, the cast performs for their families, other students, and our community. Some of our past students have even gone on to middle and high schools of the performing arts. We take great pride in our productions and use our resources to help students feel successful.
For the students who are in the show, this is likely the only opportunity they will have to experience the arts in this way. For the students who are not in the show, this gives them the opportunity to experience live theatre. Our musical this year is "Willy Wonka Kids".
