Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have taught in the South Bronx for the past twelve years. During this time, the demands on students and teachers have been steadily increasing while resources have been decreasing.

Most of the children come from struggling households where education is valued as a way to break the cycle of poverty.

My school understands this and is dedicated to helping all children become future leaders reaching their highest potential to become both successful, productive citizens in their communities and beyond.

My Project

Problem solving is an extremely difficult skill for the 4th graders I teach. In an effort to help all children to become better problem solvers, we are implementing a strategy involving group discussion where children solve a problem first independently, then discuss their different ways in a small group, and rotate to another small group for further discussions and corrections.

This strategy has been shown to improve problem solving, but it requires supplies in order to keep the group conversations going.

We need tons of pencils for the independent part of the process. The pens and markers are used in each of the other sections to make corrections found through these conversations. Without these supplies, the whole process doesn't work. Please consider donating to this project to keep our problem solving going.
