My Project

My students are from a Title I school where more than three‑quarters of students come from low‑income households. A quarter of the school population are English Language Learners.

My families come from diverse backgrounds and live in the heart of Flatbush, Brooklyn.

My students are special because they are kind, work hard and make the most out of any situation.

As students begin the new school year, I want to create a classroom in which students feel part of a community. Throughout the year, as they face challenges, I want them to be kind to themselves and uplift each other. As they look at themselves in the mirror, I want them to see how unique and beautiful they are (with a calming corner that has positive affirmations). I would like to have access to resources that encourage students to problem-solve, work together and be socially-emotionally intelligent. This project will provide students with social emotional activities that I can start off every morning in my classroom (conversation chips).

I also included basic supplies we need for classroom decor, hanging up student work, labeling student supplies and charts to encourage leadership skills. Let's give these students the supplies they need to have a welcoming, safe and socially responsible school year.
