My Students

Did you ever favor one subject in school over another? Math verses reading? No problem now. In my class, we learn through our novels. With these books, I will continue to instill a high passion for reading while incorporating essential math skills too. Math + Reading = Smart Choice.

My third grade elementary students are passionate learners.

They are active, creative, fun, and love to read. The classroom consists of thirty-six gifted students who enjoy a good story, just like their teacher. Books are stuffed under seats, in backpacks, and falling out of desks. It's hard to keep my shelves stacked. With such a love for reading, I pondered for a solution to infuse some pertinent math skills into the mix. After sifting through tons of available reading material, I discovered the perfect books (at their reading levels and interests) to match the concepts we also learn in math. I just need some help getting these amazing stories active and flowing in the classroom. The best part of the books that I am requesting is that I will be able to continue to use the books each year as yet another classroom full of smiling students enters my room searching for a good book. Won't they be surprised when they grasp some math in the process?

My Project

Grab a book and let's learn math. The resources I am requesting are all fiction books with math concepts interwoven within the story. Now how cool is that? By including these books in my reading curriculum this year, I will be able to tie into the current math concepts being taught and therefore assist in assuring a solid understanding of those standards for my students. Many of my students live to read. I need to make sure that my readers are also successful in math. With these resources, I will have the opportunity to invoke a high interest in both subjects simultaneously. Talk about a great ending to a story.

Because of today's fast-paced world, the resources that I am requesting are very important.

On paper, it seems like there is enough time in the day to teach all subjects separately. In reality, the time flies by in a wink. I need to be able to weave and blend all academic subjects into the day. These books are going to be an integral tool in helping get that done. My students will be able to read and make math connections at the same time, therefore sealing a positive impact on learning.
