My Students

My students are brilliant, and courageous risk-taking individuals that are ready to explore more mediums in art! They are proud and hardworking Visual Arts students!

We use art as a form of communication and as a way to build community in the classroom.

Art informs an understanding of ourselves and the world we live in.

More than three-quarters of students at my school are categorized as low-income and receive free or reduced price school meals. My school is inclusive, diverse, welcoming, and prepares students for life after high school.

My Project

I am requesting printmaking supplies - ink, drawing fluid, and screen filler. With these supplies, I will be able to offer printmaking as an option for communication in my classroom.

My students will first learn about the history of printmaking and the power this medium holds.

We will discuss how many different cultures and communities use printmaking to communicate. Students will then decide on a social issue of choice and use printmaking techniques to create a message they want to share. Students will be asked to reflect and have honest conversations with each other about their unique combinations of interests.

This will empower students to make meaningful work and use art/printmaking as activism. This project will allow each student to share their passion/message and connect with others in class to build community. Now more than ever building community and connections in classrooms is essential. This project will aid in starting conversations that will lead students to have mutual respect for each other.
