Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students at our school are a special group of middle school students. If you have ever met a middle school student then you know that often they are filled with an amount of energy and curiosity that, if tapped, could power a small town. Many of my students' families struggle to support their child's well being and significant numbers of my students are recent immigrants. IOur school is faced with meeting the needs of a diverse student population that is consistently struggling financially and academically at-risk.

This has not hampered our students eagerness and desire to learn and our teachers' devotion to teach, but our school needs as much help as it can get.

Many of these students struggle to make it to class on-time because they are either trying to get their younger siblings ready for their school. Many of my students are often a major caregiver for their younger siblings.

My Project

A printer will make a dramatic difference in my students' lives. Think about all of the handouts that you were given and how many of those helped you organize your thoughts. My school has no printer available on the fourth floor where my classroom is. I often stay late into the day and when I leave I am running around looking for a printer on my floor to print from another teacher.

Ask any teacher the one thing that they need in their classroom more than anything else and each one will say "a printer".

I am always printing homework or packets for students. Many of my students lose their work and need it printed. A printer will also allow me to let students print their own essays.
