Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The majority of my students are English Language Learners (ELLs) with special needs. Nintey-eight percent of the school population is Hispanic, and the majority of children come from first generation immigrants. These children have more responsibility at home than the average middle school student. Many are forced to take care of younger siblings after school instead of focusing on their own education.

My school is a Title I school which means we have a high number of children that come from low-income families.

Unfortunately, our children are at an academic disadvantage because often times they come from single-parent homes or homes where there is little academic supervision due to the need to support a family. These children do not have the same opportunities for success when compared to mid-income families.

My Project

Right now, my classroom suffers from a lack of technology. A chalkboard may have been cutting edge technology at one time point in time but not anymore!

Having technology in my classroom would directly impact my students.

The projector will enhance classroom instruction through videos, sound, and pictures! Students can begin to visualize far-away concepts and engage in a variety of new classroom activities. A classroom printer and paper will allow us to print colored photos or graphics that will improve collaborative research projects. Something as simple as a colored graphic organizer or worksheet can keep a child focused on a task.
