My Students

Imagine working hard on presentations, color graphs, spreadsheets, invitations, and digital storytelling, but only being able to print reliably in black! Now imagine mailing to a deployed parent and it not making it there in the same condition!

I teach Texas military children, in 2nd grade.

My students have a yearning for technology-rich lessons to engage and prepare them for success in life. In a technology-driven world that can often be out of reach for the military families, students enjoy being introduced and engaged in lessons that extend their minds, grasp their imaginations, and fill them with hope. They are committed to working hard and taking pride in their products. I would like to increase their self-confidence and encourage affirmation for their work by affording them the opportunity to print in color and laminate their final products.

My Project

I'd like to explain, and justify my request as I know there are many projects to consider, some for basic necessities such as paper and pencils. First, I'm a hands-on teacher. I believe in engaging students in their learning and allowing them to experience it. I'm in need of a printer that allows for color printing as well as scanning. My students create amazing work. From book covers, to illustrated books, pamphlets, and banners! They create academic tools and those with deployed parents have the opportunity to create something monthly (generally with a scanned image of themselves) to be sent to their deployed parent. I must brag that I have a fantastic group of students. I taught 1st grade and have now been blessed with the opportunity to loop with the same kids to 2nd grade. I have worked all summer to prepare to jump in, but these two items still loomed as unattainable in my budget.

You will make it possible for these military children to have a novel way of sharing their work, expressing their feelings, and connecting with new media.
