This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

What is an art room without color?! My students only have access to a networked B/W printer that is located in our library.

I teach at an elementary school in Texas.

My school has approximately 750-800 students, 98% Hispanic, 99% low socio-economic, free and reduced lunch. WE have a life skills class and an Alternative Behavior class in our school, as well as the regular education classes. I teach every grade level/every student one time per every 6 days during a 45 minute class period.

My Project

My school is participating in a pilot program for electronic drawing tablets. We have this amazing new technology, a fantastic drawing program and and my students love using these tablets. However, as of this moment, we only have access to a B/W printer that is networked in the library. The beautiful works of art that my students create do not translate well into black and white! We would love to have our own color printer so that we can print out the drawing that are created digitally so that they can be taken home to show the parents.

Having a color printer in the art room will allow my students to have tangible evidence of the digital projects that they complete, where they normally would not have anything at all.

They can see these projects when they are here, in my classroom, but once they are home, they are unable to access these works of art, due to the lack of computers in their homes.
