My Students

To say these last two weeks of school have been a breeze would be the opposite of the truth. Back to school for the first time in a year and a half, new students, new staff, and NEW CURRICULUMS.

My students are 5th grade general education and special education students and we are constantly working to differentiate curriculum in the classroom to meet their individual learning needs.

Being that this year we were given new curriculums by the city, I am working on getting to know the curriculums but also I am working on creating materials that can support my student with IEPs.

In order to do that… we would need a printer for our classroom. We also do not have access to student homework books and physical copies of teachers manuals to the new curriculums, so, we are constantly printing out our own materials and making our own copies.

I am creating this project to try to obtain a classroom printer, ink, and copy paper. Having these tools in our class will help with so many things, but mainly curriculum and differentiation of work for struggling learners!

My Project

While a printer and copy paper may seem like supplies that benefit a teacher more than a classroom of students, that could not be more far from the truth. This year, NYC has switched over the ELA, Math, Science, and Social Studies curriculum. All of these are digital based curriculums. While the students have workbooks for math and reading, everything else is online- including some of our teacher manuals. There are benefits to a digital curriculum but there are also major setbacks.

Having a class with students that have IEPs and whom are on many different individual educational levels, I constantly need to differentiate and create supplemental material- which means I need a printer to create that material.

My co-teacher and I have been printing and creating everything at home for 23 students. A printer is an essential tool for a classroom and we are asking for your help!
