Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My classroom is home to two classes of 20 fifth graders, each with a big heart filled with curiosity and an enthusiastic drive to learn more. I know this because I taught this group of students during the 2016-2017 school year when they were third graders! My students are in a fifth-grade Math and Science classroom at a Title I school in the Washington Heights neighborhood of upper NYC. Ninety-four percent of students receive free or reduced-price lunch, and 30% are English Language Learners. Like most children, my students love having hands-on experiences and I want ALL of my students to be able to have access to their own personal learning needs!

Inspiring my students to learn with a hands-on, engaging environment is the mission in the classroom.

At the end of the year, I want my students to say, "This was the best year in math, ever!" My students deserve the best math education I can give them and I desire to be able to provide a mathematical education that will encourage my students to reach for the stars!

My Project

As a math teacher, each day I create (three versions of differentiated) classwork, exit tickets, homework, study guides, assessments, projects, investigations, explorations, parent letters, and small group lessons for my students. Everything created is common core aligned and created with the intention of challenging each student individually at their own academic level.

A printer in the classroom would allow students to become facilitators in their own learning by printing anchor charts and individualized worksheets that will increase their own understanding of the topic.

With that being said, all of these teacher created materials mentioned above requires printing/ink/paper. The printer, ink and paper from this project will be utilized every single day in my classroom to give my students the education they deserve in order to help them become better real-world thinkers and problem solvers.
