This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come to school with smiles on their faces and are eager to learn. I teach at a Title I school in Los Angeles, California where most are living below the poverty line. My students are English language learners that enjoy coming to school because it is a safe place for them to make friends, learn and build their confidence. Although my students experience many obstacles, they strive to become lifelong learners.

My Project

My students love reading materials printed in color. I've never owned a color printer in my 15 years of teaching. It is time to add this crucial tool into my classroom because it will enhance my literacy lessons for my students especially my English language learners.

It is known that visuals are important for ELLs because it reduces their anxiety, increases their comprehension, and can even help them with decoding.

The printer will be needed to make sure the visual scaffold is being provided to ELLs.

My students enjoy reading decodable books in color. They rely on vibrant illustrations to help them read. I would be able to print decodable books, sound spelling cards, literacy games, vocabulary words with illustrations and sight words in color to grab my students' attention and make reading and writing more fun! We love learning new things and having the color printer will make our learning to read more engaging. I am also asking for the ink to use with this new printer.
