Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The majority of my students are English Language Learners (ELLs) with special needs. Ninety-eight percent of the school population is Hispanic, and the majority of children come from first-generation immigrants. These children have more responsibility at home than the average middle school student. Many of my students sacrifice their childhood and education to take care of their younger siblings after school.

My school is a Title I school which means we have a high number of children that come from low-income families.

Unfortunately, my children are at an educational disadvantage because often times they come from single-parent homes or homes where there is little academic supervision due to the need to support a family. Despite their many hardships, my students come to school every day happy and excited to learn new things!

My Project

Last year, my students received a colored laser printer from DonorsChoose.org. We have quickly used the ink that was donated to our classroom and we need more! Ink should be readily available in all classrooms; however, due to the price it is very limited.

I want my students' work to brighten up their educational portfolios but we cannot do this unless we have ink!

My students need to print colorful projects and reports that go along with the sixth grade curriculum. In addition, ink would allow our classroom bulletin boards to be vibrant and eye-catching! Our classroom would be more inviting and warm with color. Having new ink would benefit all of my students!
