Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are part of a Gifted and Talented Spanish Dual Immersion program in a high poverty neighborhood. Half of them are native English speakers and half are native Spanish speakers.

Their goal is to leave elementary school, not only speaking two languages, but also reading well and writing properly in all academic subjects.

Despite coming from economically disadvantaged families, these students have worked hard to earn their place in this program. They are the cream of the crop at our school and help to set the bar for the rest of the students. Helping our dual immersion students is to ensure their success as future bilingual leaders in our community.

My Project

The Utah State Board of Education has created free online science textbooks but we only get to use Chromebooks in our classroom once a week, and not all students have internet access at home. The 6th Grade Science book was recently translated for Spanish dual immersion but we need money to have them printed. Please help us get a class set of science books so that we can continue to learn when we are not in front of a computer screen. The 127-page book was written to match our Utah science curriculum and it highlights interesting real-world phenomenon. Please help us add this resource to our classroom!
