This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our students come from hard-working families who don't always have a lot of money. They're good kids who want to learn! I'm proud to say that, despite our challenges, parents in other areas of our city send their children to us because they know we have a learning environment here.
We work hard at our school and we know that learning must be enjoyable to be educational.
We get our hands on our learning every chance we get. It could be using Cheetos to dust 'pollen' from flower to flower, dancing out our anti-bullying rap, or forming an island out of play dough to demonstrate our landforms.
My Project
Our school has one copier that is used by, in my estimation, between 70 and 100 adults. This machine is our sole source of printing and copying. The copier jams, we must bring our own paper from our classrooms each time we'd like to print or copy anything, and it is on the other side of the building from my classroom.
Printer ink seems like a small thing but it adds up when you have to purchase your own.
We are not given much in the way of a reading curriculum. What we are provided must often be copied so that students can have a text in front of them. I can not even project it on the board because the projector is also broken and has been since the beginning of September. If I were able to print efficiently it would allow me more time to be face to face with my students instead of running around the building trying to print and then make copies for my grade.
More than half of students from low‑income households
