My Project

Project Description: Understanding the devastating effects of Shaken Baby Syndrome (SBS) is a critical component of Child Development education. This project will provide my high school students with a hands-on, STEM-based learning experience using the Ward Science Shaken Baby Syndrome Model—a powerful visual and interactive tool that demonstrates the severe consequences of infant shaking.

The model features a translucent head that allows students to see how a baby's brain can be harmed by shaking.

It also emphasizes the importance of supporting an infant’s neck to prevent serious injury. Students will engage in interactive lessons that reinforce the importance of gentle infant care, soothing techniques, and the biological impact of force on a developing brain. By incorporating STEM concepts, students will explore the neurological and physiological consequences of SBS, reinforcing the importance of proper infant handling.

What We Need:

To enhance this learning experience, we are requesting:

Ward Science Shaken Baby Syndrome Model – a realistic model that visually demonstrates the brain injuries caused by shaking, reinforcing the dangers of SBS.

How This Will Help Students:

By integrating STEM into Child Development education, students will develop a scientific understanding of the dangers of SBS and the critical importance of proper infant care. This project will prepare students for careers in education, healthcare, and social services while fostering empathy, responsibility, and awareness about child abuse prevention. Hands-on activities will allow students to apply their learning in real-world scenarios, with community outreach programs and our monthly observations at early childhood education settings.

This project aligns with STEM education by exploring the science behind brain trauma and infant neurological development.

Your support will provide students with the tools they need to engage in a life-changing learning experience that connects STEM principles with infant safety education.
