My Project

My students are amazing. They are all learning about how their bodies work and how to engage with their peers and teachers. My students are all on the spectrum and I teach a class called mindfulness and sensory exploration.

My classroom, unfortunately, does not yet have all of the materials that are needed for my students to be able to explore their senses and figure out what helps them stay calm, regulated and ready to learn.

I am looking to create a pretend play area to help my students develop their language and play skills. Play has been shown to help students learn to interact with each other and to help student work out anything that they have experienced including familiar and less familiar experiences.

I am requesting play food so that my students can explore cooking, asking peers what they want to eat and turn taking. I am requesting a register so that they can play store. I am requesting costumes so that they could explore different roles and careers.

These materials will allow my students to explore their senses and help them self regulate.
