My Project

My preschool students are delightful! Each morning I am greeted with hugs and smiles. They come to school full of energy and ready to learn! It's the best way to start the day! I love teaching them and I especially love creating new spaces for them to explore in our dramatic play center!

Dramatic play is important work for young children!

There are many benefits to pretend play which include cognitive development and social emotional learning. Through this creative, unstructured play time children can explore their thoughts and feelings to work through their emotions. They can act out roles and practice being in the "real world". Dramatic play gives young children opportunities to problem solve with their peers and begin to develop self regulation. Children build literacy, language, math skills, creative thinking and story telling through pretend play! It's way more than just "dressing up"!

Most of my students come from low income households and have limited life experiences. I am eager to create new opportunities for their pretend play in my dramatic play center! I'd like to provide different settings that allow my class to explore some of the community helpers roles we learn about in our curriculum. The materials in my project will help me to set up a doctor's office, a veterinarian office, a bakery-coffee shop and a camp site! I know these materials will help me to provide fun and engaging dramatic play opportunities that my class will love to explore! These materials will help them make connections to the real world and to the people who live and work in our community! They will grow and learn in cognitive and emotional ways that will build their future success in school! I appreciate your generous support for my students and my project!
