This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are everything you'd expect preschoolers to be...bright, curious, eager to please. Sadly, though, many of my kids are NOT what you'd expect a three and four year old to be....overweight and lethargic. Fast food and a sedentary lifestyle are their realities.

I teach preschool in a high-need, low-income public school district.

Eighty percent of our students are on free lunch. The majority of our students' parents work at the local meat packing plant. In addition to our American students, we have kids from Mexico, Guatemala, Ecuador, Somalia, and Sudan.

My Project

Due to the national epidemic of childhood obesity, it's crucial that we have active play equipment. While we have built up an adequate outdoor playground, we haven't had enough funds to create an indoor playground. As our weather fluctuates dramatically in any season, our kids are missing out on large blocks of exercise opportunities.

The indoor play equipment I'm requesting is the perfect starting point for our indoor playground.
