This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have been teaching at my school for 14 years in West Harlem, NYC. Every year I get to work with a diverse group of students ranging from 9 to 13 years old. They bring to the classroom different cultures, academic levels, a variety of interests, and an eagerness to learn and grow. They come to me with talent in art, music, writing, science, and much more. They have this untapped potential that I like to help bring out.

My students strive to learn even if they lack materials.

They engage in the lessons and work together to provide each other with feedback. My students come to school everyday ready to learn despite the obstacles they face at home and in their community.

My Project

The materials I am requesting will help jumpstart our Informational Writing Unit where students will choose topics they are eager to report on.

The donations to this project will help improve my students' understanding of and competency in meaningful informational writing.

They will be conducting research, which will be including videos and clips. The headphones will keep them focused and keep distractions due to volume at a minimum.

The Scholastic magazines will be used as mentor texts and guides to strengthen their informational writing as we go through the writing process.
