My Students

My students walk into our classroom every day full of life, ready to learn, and excited for what is in store for them that day. My students are all different types of learners and have various backgrounds. I have students who do not speak English, students with disabilities, and some students who are homeless.

I teach at a Title I school in New York City where 100 percent of our students receive free breakfast and lunch.

Many of my students receive food and clothing from the school's charity drives. Despite so many hardships, my students are eager to learn and do their best. They want to be in school because they want to learn all they can so they can be successful one day.

My Project

These materials are needed to help my students create and present a culminating social studies project. Many of my students' parents cannot afford supplies because they need to save their money for other basic living expenses.

Having these materials available would take the burden off students because as soon as I announced the project, the number one comment was, "I can't get the poster board, or markers." My students want to do well, but they are forced to worry about just getting basic materials instead of focusing on the quality or their project and learning.

These materials would alleviate that burden and give students the materials they need and focus on just being kids learning.
