My Students

My students are some pretty fabulous people. They come from very little, and are used to being limited. This upcoming school year will be my third year teaching AP Biology. At this point, I have 46 students who have signed up for the course. This triples my enrollment from 2016-2017! Unfortunately, because of the increased enrollment, I am short textbooks.

No one should ever be denied enrollment in a class because of a shortage of materials.

Sadly, our district is being forced to make big cuts to spending next year (due to state-level cuts). This means, one of the items on the chopping block may be my extra textbooks. I need up to 18 books, but at this point, if I could even get 9 textbooks, I would be asking my district to pay for half of what was originally asked. I love the fact that so many students have signed up for AP Biology. I want to make sure they have the best and most fulfilling experience possible-this means they need a book to use and take home with them all school-year long!

My Project

I am so excited to see that my enrollment for AP Biology has tripled for next school year. In order to make sure the kids have the best experience possible, they need to have access to the material both in and out of school. AP Biology utilizes a "flipped classroom" approach, which means students are responsible for reading the material ahead of time.

I am not just preparing my students for the AP exam, I am preparing them for their future endeavors.

They need to learn to budget their time, be more independent, and be responsible. This only happens if I can provide them with the right tools. These textbooks are the tools I need to make them successful both in my class and in life!
