Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Many students struggle with managing their big feelings when they are overwhelmed or when feeling disappointed or mad.

I strongly believe in a whole-child education, a child-centered approach that prioritizes a child’s overall development and well-being.

To that end, in my classroom, I have students with various social-emotional needs. I am seeking more sensory toys to meet my students' sensory input needs and improve daily social-emotional activities. These items will be placed in our cozy corner, which has a calm-down area. They will also be used in the classroom throughout the year to strengthen social-emotional skills and learning. Sensory play can help preschoolers develop social and emotional skills in many ways, including self-awareness, social awareness, self-esteem and confidence, stress reduction, and regulation of feelings. Furthermore, it will strengthen my students' vocabulary and language skills, as many are language learners and have difficulties expressing themselves.
