We have six Prekindergarten classes who are full of curious and kind little ones. Four of the classes are made up of 4- and 5-year-old students who will go to kindergarten in the fall. The other classes are made up of 3- to 5-year-old students who have Individualized Education Plans. Providing math manipulatives and activities for each student to have at home will give parents resources to bridge the connection of home and school.
A prek family math night would bring students, parents, and teachers together to explore math activities and take home materials to practice each skill presented.
Students will work in each station on specific prek math standards such as counting objects, one to one correspondence, counting sets of objects, adding and separating sets of objects, patterning, shape identification, sorting by attributes, and much more. Mathlink Cubes, and Bright Creations Blocks will be used to count sets of objects in tens frames and to use to construct and separate sets of objects. Hand2Mind Foam Pattern block foam shapes will be used for shape identification and sorting by attributes. Foam colorful dice and transparent color bingo counting chips will be used to identify numerals and to count out specific quantities of objects. Lacing yarn pieces and pony beads will used for students to work on patterning different colored beads as well as to help fine motor development and eye-hand coordination. The Teachers Pay Teachers card would be used to purchase counting mats, number lines, pattern mats, and pattern block puzzle cards.
A PreK Family Math night will strengthen our school family connection and community in a relaxed, fun filled evening. Each student enrolled in our six classrooms would get hands on math materials with instructions for parents use with them at home regardless if they attend the family event.
