Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach in a Title I public school Pre-Kindergarten program. Our students come from a variety of backgrounds, and 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch daily. With the COVID-19 pandemic continuing, we are likely to continue doing some type of distance learning next year. While we do not have specifics of that plan yet, any type of hybrid learning will require students to have materials at home as well as in the classroom. This spring taught me that home environments vary greatly, and that many students in our district did not have the basic materials at home that are needed to successfully complete learning activities at home.

Many families do not have accessible tech devices or printers, so the types of activities we can provide are limited.

Pre-K learning is a hands-on experience, and students need to have access to creative and academic materials both at home and at school!

My Project

These materials will enable my students to make the most of the virtual learning portion of our schedule. Providing the same materials to all of my students would allow me to share activities that they would all be able to complete. My students would be able to replicate many classroom activities, such as writing, drawing, and more.

Pre-K students learn best through hands-on, engaging activities.

Our students will experience these activities during their time in the classroom, but many students do not have the materials at home to do the same things. The whiteboards and Magnadoodles are favorites in the classroom, and would allow the students to practice writing without using lots of paper. The magnetic letters can be used to start recognizing letters and sounds. While rolling, and squishing playdough, They also gain strength and improve dexterity in their hands and fingers, critical areas of physical development for writing, drawing, and other purposes. Our classroom is always full of learning excitement, and these materials will help recreate that environment at home!
