This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I work with 18 wonderful and inquisitive Pre-Kindergarten students in a very diverse school in Brooklyn, New York. We have children from many different cultures in our class and children with many special abilities. The children love to learn new things every day!

Many of our Pre-K students are ready to read and having a listening center with books and CDs at their level will help them do that!

The children love the listening center, when it feels like working! That may sound strange but we have a very old radio, tape, and CD player that sometimes works and at other times, it does not!

My Project

The children in my Pre-K class are just beginning to read! They love to go to the listening center to read books and hear the spoken words that accompany the books, which aids in helping the children learn how to read fluently.

Unfortunately, our current listening center is lacking a a CD player that consistently works and a variety of books with CDs.

We currently have tapes, which are frustrating for the children to use independently and the children often end up breaking them. CDs are much easier for the children to use so they can access the listening center themselves and practice reading in a fun, developmentally appropriate way!

Our class needs many books with CDs to create choice and a variety of genres. Our titles include Baby Bear, Baby Bear, TheGIngerbread Boy, Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, The Rain Came Down and many more. We also need a CD player that consistently works so the children can enjoy the listening center on a daily basis. Please consider donating to this special project. Thank you!
