This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are hungry for knowledge! They want to learn important math and science skills through cooking in our classroom! Through hands-on cooking, not only can they eat healthy food they have grown and cooked themselves, but they can also learn math and science in a fun way!

I work with 18 wonderful and curious children in Brooklyn, NY.

They love to learn new concepts through hands-on learning everyday. They are very curious about planting and cooking. The children are also very eager to learn math and science by cooking healthy, vegetarian food in our classroom!

My Project

Our class needs planting supplies such as organic seeds, soil, and plant pots to grow our own herbs and vegetables to cook with. We also need cooking supplies such as child safe prepping materials, mixing bowls, utensils, and chart paper to write out our recipes so all can read them. Cooking in the class will allow the children to learn math through identifying numbers, quantities, measuring, and adding or subtracting ingredients. It teaches science by having the children observe and learn about the life cycle of a plant, the food chain, and observe changes of states. The children will learn reading and writing by reading our charted recipes, sequencing it, following directions, and making their own cookbooks. They will also have fun by cooking and eating our delicious, healthy cooking creations!
