Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Be the best you can be! That is a theme that is stressed in our classroom. Unfortunately, due to budget cuts our students have almost no access to practice books. Practice really does make perfect. Help our students get the practice they need.

Our school is located in Queens, NY.

This is a very diverse area that is the home to many new Americans. Our class is an inclusion class. We have special education students, general education students, and students that receive English as a Second Language services. Our school is very overcrowded and our students spend very little time out of our classroom. Having materials to make the day more interesting would greatly benefit and motivate our students to learn.

My Project

We are requesting a few different items in this project. First is a fluency CD. This would provide practice for students to read in phrases. We are also requesting workbooks for spelling and grammar practice and for reflecting on reading. Having a workbook to go back to and review is essential to improving in these areas. Often times, spelling and grammar are neglected because once we complete a lesson in class, the students no longer have access to it. A practice workbook will benefit their writing across the curriculum.

Our project is so important because many of our students are recent immigrants or first generation Americans and they need something concrete to go back and refer to when they are working independently.
