Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

My students are the most unique in our whole district. I work at an urban school in DC that serves students who have the greatest needs in the district. Our students have severe and profound developmental disabilities. Most of my students are nonspeaking communicators, so they rely on technology to be able to communicate their wants and needs, comment on lessons, and socialize with their peers.

We have two classrooms that are specially adapted for students with Autism.

The iPad docking stations will be used to keep communication devices charged in these classrooms. The iPad chargers, both the lightning chargers and the USB-C chargers, will be used to ensure that students' AAC devices throughout the building can be charged as needed. The book, A Day With No Words, is a powerful story about a student who uses a communication device. This will be used to help my students relate their experiences to the world around them.
