My Students

"It is our choices, that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities." My students are choosing to read, but we need new choices of books to truly foster a love of reading. My students have been exposed to a lot of "classic" books in whole class novels studies, but they need exposure to new and relatable literature.

I have a very hard working group of students, however some students come to me in seventh and eighth grade, and still haven't found the books that they connect to, and that can truly make them lifelong readers.

Many of these students have a desire and the motivation to read books, but we tend to give them classics to read, but the books that could really show them how powerful reading is aren't in our classroom library yet!

My Project

These books will be used to teach every single common core literature and informational standard. These students will be reading, sharing, critically thinking, and pushing themselves as readers. My students read many "classics" because of our curriculum, but I think it is equally as important that they read new, varied, and relevant books so ALL of my students can find book genres, characters, plots, and history that they can connect to.

By having our whole class with the same set of books, they will be given the exact support they need.

On that same note, these books will challenge my true readers to share their thinking, teach others, and enrich their vocabulary. By participating in class novel studies, all my students will be exposed to the same literature, yet still allow them to challenge themselves as individual readers.

All students will learn to be in a community of readers that truly think about and just love reading. Being exposed to the same great literature is such a vital piece for us to create a whole community of lifelong readers, and these books are just the ticket for building that beautiful reading community.
