Teaching comes from my heart. As a sixth grade teacher teaching in the Katrina devastated area, I am dedicated to assuring that my students are exposed to many educational experiences. I teach Language Arts, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies. As part of the Language Arts curriculum, my class will create and produce a school newspaper. Creating a newspaper will give the students an opportunity to express their feelings. Also, they will be applying skills being taught such as: The Writing Process, summarization, media print, writing an autobiography, writing poetry, using literary devices and figurative language. The materials needed are a digital camera, photo printer and software that will help us to create a newspaper along with graphics. I want the students to have this experience because it will give them experience of being an author, a photographer, a reporter and working together cooperatively.Through the power of their own pen, they will be allowed to escape devastating memories and travel a road of imagery to a soothing healing relief.
