Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
These graphic novels are super helpful in an ESL classroom. For students learning English as a second language, graphic novels provide visual storytelling, and cultural relevance and help with vocabulary building. My students would benefit from having graphic novels as they can improve their language skills, develop empathy, and help them gain a deeper understanding of diverse experiences and perspectives.
The goal of this donation is to provide ESL students with graphic novels to empower them to reach their full potential.
If fully funded, they will be able to improve their comprehension skills, and this will help improve student engagement and motivation in reading and learning. I would like to have all my students succeed and embark on a journey of educational growth.
My students are resilient because learning a new language as a teenager is not easy. They come from various backgrounds, but the one struggle they share is immigrating to a new country. I chose these two graphic novels because they can relate to the books, as the themes convey family, hope, and injustices. When asked about what they would like to read, these were the novels chosen. I made students part of this process because I want them to be included in what they will be learning.
